Turnover Is One Of The Most Important Factors to Consider When Choosing Any Construction Company or Handyman Service.
At MJ we understand the importance of having the same person show up to perform their duties so that you won’t have to worry about the “new guy” missing half of the required tasks, and you won’t have to spend your time checking their work every day or listening to your peers or family members complain about the things that were missed. In our industry, employee retention translates into consistency - - and that means happy customers. At MJ we’ve taken the time to identify what causes employee turnover and, more important, because of our attention to detail we have no problem with it.
There are Three common reasons for failure at Construction companies large and small and they are usually help related:
The employee wasn’t a good fit for the position or misrepresented their skill level
We take hiring and placement very seriously, from the application through the interview, we place great emphasis on finding the right person for our crews. Mort Wald is a great talent scout and knows how to match the right people to the right job or we simply don’t take on the work.
Employees don’t feel they know what is expected of them, or the proper
way to do their job based on our company culture.
A thorough, well thought out training program goes a long way toward great employee retention - - and ultimately consistency. At MJ, we have a four-step training program: employees start by going through an in-house orientation program that covers important background information about our high standards, training on the handling of equipment, OSHA standards, and emergency procedures. We feel this allows our employees to do their job with more skill and confidence. We take the time to get to know where the employee or crew member obtained their skills and have them work with our family members to learn what MJ stands for so their talents can compliment our offerings. Its amazing what happens when people come to work knowing they are appreciated and a part of something bigger then just the job at hand.
The next step is hands-on training with a Supervisor or Certified Trainer. An experienced trainer works side-by-side with each new team member to make sure they know how to perform each function of their job. Later, continued close-contact supervision insures that the new employee is able to provide the level of skill and competence on a consistent basis that meets our standards and your expectations.
Employees don’t feel recognized or appreciated.
At MJ, we pay all of our employees at or above industry wage. We believe they deserve it to be recognized when they do a great job. We also have full benefits, holiday parties, birthday recognition and other events to help our employees feel a part of the family. That makes our team members feel appreciated, their work reflects it, and our turnover rate remains well below the industry norm.
But we are also aware that there is no substitute for good, ongoing constructive supervision and continuous training. Mort Wald our owner has decades of experience and an eye for details so that you get the consistency you expect.
